Sterge graduated in 1961.

In 1989, following his contributions working as a legal practitioner in Canberra, Darwin and Brisbane, Sterge was appointed as a Senior Member of the Immigration Review Tribunal. Then, in 2001, he became the first Principal Member of the Migration Review Tribunal and the Refugee Review Tribunal.

Sterge is a committed Greek community ambassador, having previously served in Darwin as Honorary Consul of Greece. Throughout his career, he has been heavily involved in and is an advocate for immigration law, current affairs and international relations.

Sterge retired in 2012.
